1940 Marx, Turnover Tank in Original Box

1940 Marx, Turnover Tank in Original Box

Classic large version of Marx' clockwork tin litho Turnover Tank in superb near mint condition. Complete with original box.

Vintage oval shape patterned after the U.S. Tank Corps WW1 machines. Six variations of this tank were produced from 1938 through 1942. This version has yellow, red, and beige coloration without camouflage. The sides show lithoed bogey wheels and treads. The exterior perimeter has headlights, a turret with gun, rear machine guns and armor plating. In addition, both sides have a single black cannon mounted into a diamond shaped bracket. It has an attached key and start/stop lever.

The underside has three wooden wheels and a turnover lever connected to its internal clockwork motor. The toy moves forward, stops, and the lever underneath starts to lower. At a certain point it'll raise high enough to turn the entire tank over end to end. To repeat the action it has to be manually uprighted.

One other point of interest. The Marx company frequently used lithoed scrap components from one toy to manufacture another. In this case if you look through the openings on the underside of the tank you'll see that the metal sheet was originally used to manufacture the Dick Tracy Double Target dart board. That particular toy was produced the same year.

The original box is a simple text style with the toy name, and manufacturer name and address. It's complete with all eight original endflaps.
